KNIGHTS TROUNCE OTAGO

The Canterbury Knights began their quest for the Conference basketball League (CBL) title
with an impressive performance over their Southern rivals, Otago B, 78-55.
The match was the first for the Knights who are competing in the Lower South Conference of
the CBL.
Right from the tip-off the collection of Canterbury’s promising players aged 19 to 24
dominated the Otago B side at both ends of the floor, jumping to a 24-12 lead at the end
of the first quarter.
The Knights utilised full court pressure on many occasions to cause turnovers from the
young Otago backcourt players, converting them into many easy points.
Canterbury controlled the action in the second quarter, taking a 45-28 lead into
half-time. In the second half, the Otago side upped their intensity and was able to
restrict the Knights to below 20 points in each of the quarters. However, the damage had
been done and the Knights won the game by a hefty 23 point margin.
The Knights completely owned the boards, holding a 52-32 total rebound advantage and a
23-11 offensive rebounds lead.
Starring for the Knights was forward Ritchie Howell, making his CBL rookie appearance, who
notched up 12 points from the high post position and connected on 6 of his 7 field goal
attempts.
Shooting guard Myles Sutherland led the Knights in scoring with 14 points including two
three pointers, and had 4 assists. Blase Dowall accumulated a hard-worked 9 rebounds which
was the game high.
For the visitors, Matt Kendricks scored 17 points and Nuggets squad member Jamie Blake had
14.
