Who is involved with the Camp?

The Camp is run by The Rambo Charitable Trust in conjunction with the Canterbury Rams of the National Basketball League (NBL). The following people will be the principal instructors at the Camp:

Craig Hickford, Camp Director
Craig is a Canterbury Rams player and qualified primary school teacher

Dr John Watson, Camp Instructor
John is the Canterbury Rams Managing Director, former Rams player, and a University of Canterbury Lecturer

Other Instructors
Other instructors will include Canterbury Rams and Knights (2nd Division) coaches and players, in addition to noted coaches from across Canterbury

General Information

  • Camp runs from Monday September 24 to Wednesday September 26 at Pioneer Stadium, Lyttelton Street, Christchurch
  • Daily sessions will operate from 9 am to 3 pm
  • Instruction will occur in age & skill appropriate groupings
  • Supervision will be provided during lunch (12-1 pm)
  • Participants may leave early with written permission only
  • Each day please make sure participant brings:
  • a prepared lunch
  • a basketball
  • appropriate clothing (shorts, court shoes and a t-shirt)
  • any medication as required
  • a water bottle
  • Pioneer food and drink facilities will be available at breaks
  • T-shirts will be distributed on the last day of the Camp*

Attention 17-18 year olds

A limited number of volunteer Assistant Instructor positions will be available at this Camp to youth aged 17 -18 years. To apply for an Assistant Instructor position please send a letter outlining 1) why you want to be involved with the Camp, 2) your goals as related to basketball, 3) a summary of relevant experience and 4) your contact details to The Rambo Charitable Trust by September 7, 2001.

Conditions of Participation

Behaviour: Parents will be contacted if a child's behaviour warrants. Camp management has the right to withdraw access without refund should a child's behaviour be unmanageable.
Supervision: Staff will supervise between 9 am-3 pm daily only.
Payment & Refund: Full payment required with registration. Refunds will only be given in extenuating circumstances at the discretion of Camp management.
All registrations are subject to approval from Camp management.
Registrants will receive a letter of confirmation in the post by September 12, 2001.

The Rambo Charitable Trust is a not-for-profit organisation that uses sport as a vehicle for individual and community development. Programmes of the Trust include:

  • Community visits
  • Fundraising for schools and community groups
  • Basketball camps and clinics
  • Jr Rams Programme
  • Coaches' Association (new in 2002)
  • Rams Night Out (new in 2002)
