APPOINT GENERAL MANAGER

Rams Basketball has appointed Piet Van Hasselt as
General Manager of the organisation.
This new full-time position will encompass
coordinating and overseeing the operations of the
Rams organisation and will commence February 1,
2002.
Van Hasselt has been a volunteer worker with the
Rams since 1996. He was a member of the
scorebench crew (1996-97) and television
statistician (1998-99). Over the past two
seasons, Van Hasselt has been a key
behind-the-scenes worker, managing Public
Relations, Game Night Operations and Team
Publications. He is Court Controller at home
games and the Webmaster of the Rams website
"Rampages".
Van Hasselt graduated from the University of
Canterbury with a B.Com in Marketing and
Management. Further study earned Van Hasselt a
Postgraduate Diploma in Sport Management, and is
completing a Masters degree, including a thesis
on "Sport Marketing and the Internet".
Rams' Director Dr John Watson is excited about
the new appointment. "Piet has been my right
hand man for the past two seasons. It is a huge
step for the organisation to bring him on board
full-time."
This appointment will relieve Dr Watson, also a
Lecturer at the University of Canterbury, of a
number of administration duties. Watson's title
will change from Managing Director to Chief
Executive Officer. "Piet has outstanding
skills and a proven track record with us. It is
comforting to know that someone with his talents
will be running the show."
Van Hasselt is looking forward to his new
management position, stating "this is a
dream opportunity. with the Rams I am thrilled to
put the skills I have learned through my
education and experiences into practice, all in
the sport that I love".
