TALL BLACKS
SHOCK THE AUSSIES
Last weekend the Tall Blacks achieved one of New
Zealand's best sporting accomplishments defeating
Australia 2-1 in the Oceania Qualifying Series
for the World Championships. The team outplayed
and outstrategised the Aussies and pulled off two
amazing victories. Congratulations to the team on
behalf of the Canterbury Rams and good luck for
them in Indianapolis in September 2002. For more
information on the Tournament

RAMS SEPTEMBER CAMP A SUCCESS
Last week the Rams held a Junior Camp that was
attended by 60 budding Canterbury Basketballers.
Camp Director Craig Hickford did a great job and
was well aided by a stellar cast of coaches
including: Gilly McFarlane, Terry Brunel, John
Watson, Craig Farrant, Andrew Gardiner, Amy
Gardiner, Tim Edmonds, Salasopo Tulua and a
number of other coaches. Stay tuned to find out
more details about the next Rams clinic.
DAVE LIGHTS UP DUBLIN
Rams Captain Dave Langrell made a thrilling start
to his season with Irish club Neptune last
weekend, scoring 21 points and grabbing 13
rebounds (playing in all 40 mins). He was a key
part of the team's come from behind 2 point
victory over a Dublin side slotting 2 three
pointers in the dying stages of the game. To
follow Dave's progress visit the Neptune team
page here.
POPE BREAKS FINGER
Rams American import of 2001 John
"Pope" Whorton has broken his finger
whilst training in the USA. Unfortunately this
means he can't play for his club in Sweden
(Jamtland), which was about to begin their
season. Pope is expected to be in a cast for 6-8
weeks followed by rehab.
CANTERBURY U23s
The Canterbury Men's Under 23 squad is heading to
Wellington this weekend (October 5-7) to compete
in the national finals with five other men's
teams. The team is coached by the Rams Three
Point Specialist Craig Hickford and Rams' Manager
Dene Robinson. Ram Tim Edmonds is a member of the
squad along with Ritchie Howell and Nathan Hyde
from the Cantebury Knights.
CANTERBURY COMMENTATOR AT GOODWILL GAMES
Yes that's right, our very own CTV Rams
Commentator Bob Manthei commentating the Tall
Black matches during the Goodwill Games a month
ago. Bob was selected as a member of the
broadcasting crew and worked a number of games
during the tournament. I'm sure every Rams Fan
agrees that Bob did his usual top-notch job and
his comments were always insightful.
