DAVE SIGNS WITH
CHESTER JETS
Hot news off the wires! Rams Captain Dave
Langrell has signed a new contract with top
English club side Chester Jets. Dave will join
Tall Black stalwart Pero Cameron on the Jets who
he helped propel to a championship last season.
This is great news for Dave as the English League
is a tougher competition than the Irish League
and the Rams wish him the best of luck for the
season.
Here’s what the British have to say about
his signing:
LANGRELL LENDS JETS SUPPORT
"Chester Jets added a new name to their
roster today, as Dave Langrell signed with the
joint leaders of the BBL Championship Northern
Conference for the 2001/02 season. 25-year-old
Langrell was born in New Zealand, but has a
British passport thanks to his mother, who was
born
and raised in Britain.
The 6’5” shooting guard comes to
Chester courtesy of Jets’ captain, Pero
Cameron, who knows him from New Zealand. Cameron
recommended the player to Coach Peers and
Langrell agreed to join the Jets following a
brief spell in Ireland with Neptune.
“It’s good to have Dave at the
Jets,” remarked Peers. “Pero speaks
highly of him, which can only be a good thing,
and I firmly believe he will be able to play a
valuable part in what we are trying to achieve
this season.”
Prior to joining Neptune, Langrell played in New
Zealand for the Canterbury Rams. Last season he
averaged 12 points, 4.6 rebounds, 5 assists and
1.81 steals per game. He led his team for steals
and also made 37% of his shots from three point
range.
He is also a qualified secondary school teacher
and taught physical education and history in New
Zealand. However, he is keen to concentrate on
his basketball career while in the BBL and is
looking forward to his debut, which is expected
to come this weekend."

CANTEBURY U23 CHAMPIONS
Congratulations to the Canterbury U23 squad that
won the National Finals last weekend in Porirua.

Edmonds had an outstanding tournament and was
named the Most Valuable Player. Rams player Craig
Hickford and manager Dene Robinson coached the
side to victory.
RAMS IN CHARITY GAME
As a part of the YMCA Kyds Day Out at Bryndwyr a
number of Rams players mixed it up with local
sports personalities in a charity basketball game
last weekend. The event was organised by former
Rams player and CTV Commentator Terry Brunel and
Rams Director John Watson was the courtside
commentator. The Rams most experienced player Craig
Farrant wowed the crowd with some
exciting glides to the hoop and won the half-time
Slam Dunk contest. 2000 Rams player Myles
Sutherland also took the court along with three
Canterbury Wildcats (Kristin McLoughlin, Stacey
Mabey, Moi Murphy), and Crusaders Coach Robbie
Deans. The Rams regular game performers, the YMCA
Dancers, put on an exhibition before the game.
Much fun was had by all.
