RAMS PRELIMINARY SQUAD NAMED
22 FEBRUARY 2002
by Piet Van HasseltLast night the Canterbury
Rams announced a preliminary squad of 20 players
for the upcoming National League Basketball (NBL)
season after the final trial at Cowles Stadium.
Outstanding hustle and healthy competitiveness
for places was displayed throughout all three
trials this week.
Head Coach John Watson and the coaching staff
have selected players who they feel could
realistically play for the Rams this season. The
squad will be reduced to 15 after two to three
weeks.
"We will use the next few weeks of
pre-season matches and trainings to determine the
final make-up of the team," said Watson.
The preliminary squad will play intersquad
matches in Ashburton and Rangiora on March 1 and
2, followed by a game against the Otago Nuggets
on Saturday 8 March in Timaru.
"We are comfortable with any of these 20
guys making the final cut," said Watson.
The Rams first home game in the NBL is against
the Manawatu Jets on Saturday 13 April at the
WestpacTrust Centre.
