RAMS v JETS
JETS SHOOTING CLINIC IN SECOND HALF
The Manawatu Jets simply shot the lights out at Arena 3 on
Friday night beating the Canterbury Rams, 96-82. In the second half,
almost every Jet hit a three-pointer, with the team combining for an
amazing 10 of 17 attempts! Every shot that was missed by Manawatu was
cleaned up on the offensive board with a short put-back, and Canterbury
was never allowed a sniff of victory. The Jets had a balanced scoring
attack with their leading scorer being point guard Jon Southey who
compiled 14 points. Canterbury must now travel to Napier to take on the
Hawks on Saturday night

POPE LEADS RAMS TO MASSIVE COMEBACK
Rams American Centre John "Pope" Whorton nearly matched the number on
his back (52) with 50 points to lead Canterbury on the back end of their
away double-header against the Hawks, 99-94. The Rams were down by 20
mid-way through the second quarter and slowly chipped away at the deficit
until they claimed the lead 69-67 in the third quarter. The Rams
continued to build on their lead and had a few jitters at the end of the
game, but held on for the victory. The early going was all with the Hawks
as Adrian Majstrovich had 19 points mid-way through the second quarter.
Canterbury's coaching staff made a crucial adjustment moving to a box and
one defence, which restricted Majstrovich to only one more point in the
game. Rams forward Rewi Manahi played alongside Whorton for most of the
game and had his best game this season with 14 points. The Rams went to a
two-point guard alignment for much of the second half and Jeremy Kench
scored a career high nine points in 26 minutes on the court. The Hawks
offence was well spread with all of the five starters scoring at least 13
points, but the bench only scored four points.
