RAMS NEWS: RAMS 2003 TEAM AWARDS & STATS LEADERS

On Thursday night the annual Rams’ team awards were presented and season ticket holders, sponsors and volunteers mingled with the team.

 




 

MOST IMPROVED PLAYERS: Ben Jeffrey & Jeremy Kench
Youngsters Jeffrey and Kench showed flashes of their immense potential, playing the demanding point guard position against their far more experienced rivals.

Ben Jeffrey

  • Started every game he played 17/17
  • Had 21 points (3/4 threes), 9 rebounds in overtime loss to Waikato
  • Averages: 5.8 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 1.5 apg
     

Jeremy Kench

  • Leads Rams in assists : turnover ratio (just under 1:1)
  • Had 9 points, 7 assists, 0 turnovers in win vs. Taranaki
  • Averages: 3.4 ppg, 1.7 rpg, 1.7 apg

     

MR CONSISTENCY: Rewi Manahi

  • If you’re looking for production per minute on the court, you can’t go past Manahi who shots is amongst the leaders in field goal and free throw accuracy.
  • Led the league in Field Goal % - 68.0%
  • Second in Free Throw % - 86.7%
  • Went 6/6 from the field for 14 points in win @ Hawks.
  • Started 13 of 18 games.
  • Averages: 20.3 mpg, 7.4 ppg, 4.1 rpg
     

BEST DEFENSIVE PLAYER: Tim Edmonds

  • Whether you call him “Timmy Hustle” or the “Energizer Bunny”, Edmonds continued to enhance his game and reputation as a defensive stopper and ball-hawk.
  • Toe injury hampered first half of season.
  • 21 points vs Saints.
  • 10 points for Rams against Czechs.
  • Averages: 9.3 ppg, 50.0 fg%, 2.7 rpg, 0.6 spg
     
MOST VALUABLE PLAYER: John Whorton
  • This is Whorton’s third straight Rams' MVP award and he continued his dominance of the league after his mid-season arrival.
  • Leding the league in points (29.3) and rebounds (16.5), which is the only time this has ever been accomplished.
  • Second in league in minutes 38.9 per game.
  • Named BK League player of week – 3 times out of nine opportunities.
  • Had 50 points in win @ Hawks.
  • 28 points and 14 rebounds for Rams vs Czechs.
  • Brought up his 1000th point in 42nd career game.
