RAMS NEWS: FRUSTRATION

RAMS NEWS (MINI EDITION): FRUSTRATION FOR RAMS ON ROAD
by Piet Van Hasselt
17 & 18 May 2003

17 May 2003 - TWO OVERTIME GAMES HIGHLIGHT CRAZY SATURDAY NIGHT
The Scenic Circle Rams put up a valiant effort in a defeat to the defending champions the Waikato Titans in Hamilton, 99-96.  The Rams had a complete team effort with six players reaching double-figures with an excellent contribution from starting point guard Ben Jeffrey with 21 points and had a three-pointer that forced the game into overtime.  However, the game was similar to the Semi-Final match-up last season with the Rams squandering a large lead heading into the fourth quarter (13 points tonight), but the team can take heart from the performance considering two of their weapons did not take the court (Clifton Bush and John Whorton).  Nat Connell and Dillon Boucher led the scoring for the Titans with 20 points apiece.  In fact Boucher nearly grabbed an extremely rare quadruple double(!!!) with 20 points, 11 rebounds, 8 steals and 6 assists - he also threw in 8 turnovers for good measure!

The Rams now face a bus ride to New Plymouth tonight where they will play the BK League newbies the Taranaki Mountain Airs on Sunday afternoon.

Waikato Titans 99 (Nat Connell 20, Dillon Boucher 20)
Canterbury Rams 96 (Mike Pegues 22, Ben Jeffrey 21, Dave Langrell 16, Andrew Gardiner 12, Boyd Smart 10, Tim Edmonds 10)
In Overtime

18 May 2003 - MOUNTAIN AIRS SPRING UP SECOND WIN
NBL newbies the Taranaki Mountain Airs claimed their second victim of season beating the Canterbury Rams at home, 95-77.  Canterbury faced a daunting task after pushing the Waikato Titans into overtime the night before.  Link Abrams and Willie Banks had 26 points apiece for the Mountain Airs.  Taranaki were coached by NBL veteran player Steve Campbell, who was subbing in place for the recovering Warren Osborne.

Canterbury Rams 77 (Mike Pegues 20, Rewi Manahi 14, Andrew Gardiner 12)
