1. NEW LOOK RAMS READY
The Burger King National Basketball League Championship season has finally arrived for Scenic Circle Hotels Canterbury Rams Fans. Make sure you're there to see the new-look team in action when the Rams take on the Manawatu Property Brokers Jets, at the WestpacTrust Centre at 7pm on Saturday.

With a new coach and new attitude, the formation of “Thunder and Lightning” - John “Pope” Whorton and Terrence Lewis and an exciting uptempo brand of basketball, the Rams should be one of the most entertaining teams in the league. The mix of veteran experience and promising young Canterbury talent is one of the main strengths of the squad. After two seasons of missing out on the playoffs, the team is hungry to play to their immense potential and reward the Rams Fans.

This off-season the Jets were able to add two crucial cogs to their fast-breaking machine. Clifton Bush left the NBL champion Waikato Titans, and will be the catalyst at the offensive end. Athletic 2.07m Centre Miles Pearce is Australian born with a NZ passport, and displayed his tremendous potential last week with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 blocks. With Pearce being the only post presence on the Jets, the visitors will likely employ an up-tempo style of game and rely on the quickness of Bush, Pearce, and spark-plug point guard Jonathon Southey in to attempt to out-run the Rams. However the home side can counter with the likes of point guard Carlo Varricchio, captain courageous Dave Langrell, the “energizer bunny” Tim Edmonds, and veteran Craig Farrant.

Both the Rams and Jets will be on a mission to send a strong early season message to other NBL sides with a victory on Saturday. The Jets will be coming off a match the night before against the Otago Nuggets on Friday night (highlights on the match will be screened on TVOne at 2:30pm on Saturday).

The Rams Official Mascot Rambo, YMCA Dancers, and the And1 Gang (were the Nike Crew last season) will be there to support the team and provide the award-winning entertainment at the game.

For more information on the Rams vs. Jets game and Legends please check out today's edition of the Christchurch Citizen (April 12).
